Concerned Gamers Unite: The Starcraft II LAN Petition

-Once again, another tip I got from a friend of mine, and fellow member of “Working Title”.

Much appreciated, Brad.

Well, I don’t really have much to say about this, other than I’m in sheer bewilderment at how many signatures pour in on this thing.

If you didn’t catch my comrade in arms OriginOfBob’s post, then I’ll catch you up to speed; Activision-Blizzard has decided to cancel LAN support for Starcraft II. Because of this, if you wish to play multiplayer, you are now forced to register a BattleNet account, and play through the net. Hundreds of thousands of players are up in arms about the decision to ditch LAN support, as it was just one of the many highlights of the original Starcraft.

There is an official petition to bring back LAN support for SCII that you can find here. I can’t guarantee that the petition will influence anything, as Activision is rather thick-headed, and Blizzard only cares about it’s zombie-spawning franchise that is World of Warcraft, but it’s nice to see that people aren’t going to sit back and let them get away with it.

The petition has picked up some crazy steam; I signed at 4:30 PM, August 17, 2009, and I was number 108380. As of me writing this post (not the actual process of posting), 110348 people have signed, and it continues to climb.

Oh man. I remember that last time a petition worked. It was in the year…oh wait. That didn’t happen. Because it never happens. Ever. Blizzard could change the graphics to resemble Maple Story and everyone would still buy it. Allocating the time and resources to make it LAN capable would be a gross misuse of manpower and would likewise be fiscally irresponsible.

just sign the petition people. if it doesn’t work their sales will plummet. thats the power of petition from buyers. thats dollars that might not be spent on blizzard.

Ah, so you believe that if Blizzard neglects the petition, and they just might, then the Starcraft populous will still retaliate by boycotting SC2, thus hindering Blizzard’s sales gain? Interesting…. and also highly plausible.
