Hover Tanks and Explosions: Metal Drift

Have you ever wanted a team-based, customizable hover tank game? That question should be so rhetorical that you laugh when you read it.

As luck would have it, one is being developed. Enter Metal Drift. From Black Jacket Studios, a company with no previous releases, comes a premise so promising that my jaw dropped when I first saw the trailer. Speaking of the trailer, here you go:

Now, I’m sure you want details. Fair enough! For starters, both weapons and speed boosts draw from the same energy reserve, so your need for mobility versus pure destructive force will need to be constantly re-evaluated. There are five different arenas to choose from, with up to 12 players (six per team) allowed in at a time. You’ll level up to unlock new weapons, and the game will feature stat tracking and a leaderboard. But the best part? There are 56 possible weapon configurations for you tank. No need for a double-take. I’ll say it again: fifty six weapon combinations.

Rolls of the tongue, don’t you think? Say it to yourself a few times. Then re-watch the trailer. Now take a deep breath. Relax. It’s okay to be ecstatic.

Now that you’re sufficiently hyped, consider this: if you pre-purchase the game on Steam, you get instant access to the beta. At only ten dollars, it’s easily worth the purchase.

So, what do you think? Already in the beta? Enjoying it so far? Could you care less about the game? Tell us in the comments!
